One day, one action !
As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, Sodexo Luxembourg is committed to helping discover or rediscover the actions we are taking with our customers, consumers and employees to reduce waste as much as possible.

Monday : Zero Single Use Plastic
Let's start the week by talking about single-use plastic!
As a signatory of the IMS "Zero Single Use Plastic" Manifesto, Sodexo Luxembourg has eliminated all unnecessary single-use plastic items (straws and stirrers) from 2019 and replaced others with reusable alternatives (cups, cutlery, bags, etc.). Our customers and consumers are aware of the need to reduce waste, and have supported and encouraged us in this eco-responsible approach.

Tuesday : TAke one and Biomethanization
The "Take One" awareness campaign encourages our customers to avoid wasting napkins and to use just one for their meal. Strong and high quality, this napkin made from unbleached recycled paper is environmentally friendly. After use, these napkins are mixed with the organic waste we collect, and 100% of it is recycled through biomethanization.
A nice example of circularity!

Wednesday : Recyclable containers
Sometimes, when people are on the move, they still need to use plastic containers: for example, for water bottles in vending machines, or for takeaway sushi trays. In these cases, we prefer RPET containers for their circularity: 100% recycled and 100% recyclable plastic.
Remember, 100% of our waste is sorted by our teams! So the plastic is recycled and becomes its own resource.

Thursday : Preventing food waste
For several months now, we have been implementing a digital "Leanpath" programme in our kitchens to weigh food waste and identify ways of reducing waste. The aim is to reduce food waste by 50% by 2025! The programme is designed to raise awareness of waste management among kitchen staff, improve the quantities of food to be produced by adapting supply to demand, and raise awareness of food waste among diners.
In 12 months, we've been able to save the equivalent of 13,000 meals and avoid 49 tonnes of CO2 emissions!

Friday: anti-waste baskets
We are fighting food waste as part of an environmental approach to reduce our carbon footprint, but also and above all because it is an ethical approach: how can we accept throwing away food that is still edible?
An app, a few clicks, savings and an eco-responsible gesture: that's the challenge that Sodexo Luxembourg has set itself by joining forces with Phenix, the anti-food waste app. As a result, our surplus production is offered to our customers at a greatly reduced price.
Simple gestures to reduce waste on a daily basis: together, let's be the agents of change!
